Nominated by the Portuguese Government to be Commissioner of the Year of Portuguese Design 2014/2015, GMG curated a programme of projects with the aim to promote and diffuse national design.
The Year of Portuguese Design was an initiative of the Portuguese Government to propel national design production internationally. Led by the Secretary of Culture in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, the programme aimed to position Portugal in an international context as an innovative country, highlighting design production as a key factor in the development of the Portuguese economy.
This project had an economic and education foundation, having throughout 2014 and 2015, stimulated coproductions and embraced experiences of independent design, promoting and disseminating them. According to GMM, “the end result of this project reflected an impressive image of current national design production with great quality, vitality and plurality, also contributing to the establishment of a new perception about this country that is expressly standing out in the fields of cultural and creative industries”.
Curated by GMG, the programme integrated exhibitions, lecturers, workshops, a ceremony of design awards and the creation of a website dedicated to national design – www.designportugues.pt – as well as a book and an app publications.
